Low temperature container is a general term for equipment used for storing and transporting lowtemperature liquids. Traditionally, it is divided into small Dewar flasks, storage tanks, tanker trucks, tanker ships, etc. Liquefied gases stored and transported in industry include liquefied natural gas, liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid hydrogen, liquid helium, and liquid fluorine.

Low temperature liquid storage and transportation containers (referred to as lowtemperature containers) are usually named after the liquefied gases stored or transported. Liquefied gases stored and transported in industry include liquefied natural gas, liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid hydrogen, liquid helium, and liquid fluorine.

Low temperature containers can be divided into:
(1) A container with ordinary insulation structure, which is used for the storage and transportation of liquefied natural gas and a large amount of liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen.

(2) High vacuum insulated containers are generally only made small and used for the storage and transportation of liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid argon.

(3) Vacuum powder insulated and vacuum fiber insulated containers, which can be used for the storage and transportation of liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid hydrogen.

(4) Vacuum multilayer insulated containers and containers with liquid hydrogen screens or conductive screens are used for the storage and transportation of liquid hydrogen and liquid helium, especially for liquid helium containers that generally have protective screens. The last three types of containers mentioned above are usually referred to as Dewar vessels. A Dewar vessel is composed of two or more concentric metal shells, with the innermost layer called the inner container used to store lowtemperature liquids and the outermost layer called the outer shell. The insulation layer between the inner liner and the outer shell is filled with insulation material or a protective screen. In addition to the four types of lowtemperature containers mentioned above, underground storage tanks can also be used for liquefied natural gas. Underground storage tanks can adopt concrete structures with internal insulation structures; The frozen soil method can also be used to freeze the surrounding soil of the storage tank into an insulated shell. The advantages of underground storage tanks are good safety, good economy, and the ability to improve land utilization.

Low temperature containers can be divided into two types: fixed and transport. The former is used for storage, while the latter is used for transportation. Transport containers can be divided into land transportation, water transportation, and air transportation. The combination of land transport containers and transportation vehicles is called a tanker, which has two types: trailers (pulled by cars or trams) and railway tankers.

Low temperature vessels can be divided into two categories based on their working pressure: one is lowpressure vessels (or open type vessels) that operate at pressures close to atmospheric pressure; One type is a highpressure vessel that operates at a pressure of 1.5 to 3.0 MPa. Low pressure vessels are used for general storage and transportation; High pressure vessels are installed in consumer centers, supplying lowtemperature liquids to users through pipelines or supplying gases after vaporization. Regardless of whether liquid or gas is supplied, the minimum pressure specified must be maintained in the pipeline network.
